When your partner taps — by hand, foot, or verbal submission — release immediately. Delaying a release is a serious safety violation and will not be tolerated.
Match the energy of your training partner. This is a private gym with adults who train to grow, not to win. Spiking intensity without consent, especially against less experienced partners, is unacceptable.
If you are carrying an injury, inform your partner before you begin. If a technique feels unsafe during a roll, say so and pause. Speak up — your partner cannot read your body.
Throws and takedowns must be controlled. Slamming a partner to escape a submission or to score is prohibited at all times.
Train clean. Trim your nails. Wash your gi and rashguard after every session. If you are unwell — fever, skin infection, open cut — do not attend training until you are cleared.
Any instruction given by the coach during class or sparring is to be followed without argument. Safety corrections are not optional.
VCBJJ reserves the right to ask any student to sit out or cease training if their conduct poses a risk to others. Last updated: April 2026.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a contact sport. Training involves physical engagement with other participants and carries inherent risks — including bruising, sprains, strains, and other injuries — that cannot be fully eliminated by instruction, supervision, or equipment.
By participating in any VCBJJ session (private training, group class, open mat, or workshop), you voluntarily accept these risks and agree to the following:
1. Inherent Risk. You acknowledge that BJJ training carries inherent risks of injury and that no level of coaching or supervision can eliminate this risk entirely.
2. Contact Injuries. You accept that injuries may occur through contact with training partners during drills, partner exercises, or sparring (rolling), and you release VCBJJ and its coach from liability for such injuries unless caused by gross negligence.
3. Medical Conditions. You confirm that you are physically capable of participating in martial arts training. You agree to inform your coach of any pre-existing medical conditions, injuries, or health concerns before each session. You release VCBJJ from liability for any aggravation of undisclosed pre-existing conditions.
4. Photo & Video Consent. Sessions may be photographed or filmed for coaching review or VCBJJ social media. You consent to this unless you separately notify your coach in writing. You may withdraw consent at any time.
5. Voluntary Participation. You sign this agreement of your own free will as a release of liability.
